Insulation works

Leaky wild wall – these are often problem areas in block houses, where the seams have deteriorated over a long period of use, and where rainwater leaks inside the wall.

Drop by drop, the wall becomes saturated with moisture and mould appears in the corners or in the middle of the wall. It can also be caused by defects or deterioration in the roof structure, in which case the moisture penetrates even faster. Insulation works can solve this problem.

Seam repairs (external insulation)

Externally, this issue is easy enough to tackle, as the most effective way to retain heat indoors is to insulate the external envelope and eliminate cold bridges.

This includes seam sealing at height, renovation of roof structures by sealing and adapting other insulation materials, waterproofing of the walls themselves, and thermal insulation if cracks and structural leaks are visible in different parts of the wall.

However, it is not always possible to insulate a building from the outside, but it is possible to do so from the inside. Insulating from the inside has to solve several seemingly opposing problems: stopping heat loss and ensuring water vapour transmission.

This is a rather complex and problematic process, as poor workmanship can lead to further wall condensation and even more severe mould. However, if done correctly, the result will be just as effective as external insulation.

Internal insulation methods

There are several basic insulation methods, the first of which is the classic closed insulation using polystyrene or polyurethane foam, mineral wool, and finishing with plasterboard constructions.

The second, in all cases superior (because sooner or later unstoppable moisture from the outside will still break through to the inside and become trapped between the non-breathable structures), would be where the insulation system is installed with actively vapour-permeable materials, and where the thermal insulation used is a highly effective moisture-absorbing material.

We use such a system in our customers’ residential and industrial premises. It is a 100% natural, diffusively permeable and capillary active system with built-in mould protection and helps to create a healthy indoor climate. The system consists of a perlite panel, installed together with adhesive, reinforcement and finishing layers.

The insulation board made of recycled perlite is the basis of the system and is characterised by an extremely high crystallisation water content of up to 5%, which gives it an extremely high expansion capacity.

The mineral material meets the requirements of Class A1, contains no organic components, is biologically harmless, resistant to ageing, rotting, shrinkage and pests, and can be said to be everlasting.

Why is insulation important?

Thermal comfort is one of the most important indicators of indoor air quality and has a significant impact on people’s well-being and physical and mental activity.

As mentioned above, during the cold season, there is often a large temperature difference between the indoor air and the unheated external walls, which leads to a drop in indoor air temperature in the area of the walls, a decrease in comfort, condensation and the formation of mould fungi.

With a mineral breathable insulation system, the surfaces of the indoor walls become so warm that the difference between the surface and air temperatures becomes minimal. This heat coefficient is not achieved by conventional closed, non-breathable insulation.

The insulation system containing perlite is effective in controlling humidity – condensation from indoor air is quickly absorbed due to the high absorption capacity of the insulation boards and the intensive transport of liquid water through capillaries which gradually transfer the humidity to the interior of the room without condensation build-up, thus keeping the wall continuously evaporating and drying.
