Plastering, rendering, painting

Mould usually appears on ceilings and walls, and some of these walls have crumbling, cracked areas even before the mould appears, so customers express a need for cosmetic wall work after the mould has been removed.

We prepare the wall for the work by stripping it down to the concrete or brick, then priming it with an anti-mould agent, which is needed to bond the plaster and prevent mould.

After priming, plaster up to 5mm thick, smooth the surface thoroughly and prepare it for plastering. Before plastering, the plaster is again coated with a deep primer, then plastered with a fine-grained putty with marble filler, the wall is sanded, primed and painted again.

The paints used are either plain or with silver ions; silver has a disinfectant effect, as silver ions attract various vital enzymes of unicellular organisms, and when they combine, the enzymes are permanently stopped, causing suffocation and sudden death of micro-organisms.

Wallpapering

There are four types of wallpaper. The most popular and cheapest are paper ones, divided into single and double layers, with the main advantages of being cheap, eco-friendly, easy to apply and breathable.

However, they also have very important main disadvantages, such as humidity, fading from the sun and being completely non-durable (lifetime up to 5 years), namely that such wallpapers do not withstand and disintegrate when treated with chemicals as they are susceptible to any kind of washing.

Another type, vinyl wallpaper, is favoured for its variety of coverings, is washable, virtually fade-resistant, but has poor air permeability and is not suitable for bedrooms and children’s rooms.

The third type of wallpaper, fleece, is also made of paper, but with fabric fibre additives, and has a non-woven backing, which gives it a high density, high strength, eco-friendly, breathable, and does not swell when wet.

The last type is liquid wallpaper, which covers up uneven walls, has good sound and heat insulation, does not attract dust, is aesthetic but is afraid of moisture. We use either vinyl or fleece wallpapers for their durability and resistance to external factors.

Siliconisation

A large proportion of customers who have a mould problem in the bathroom have mould damage to the silicone, which is the sealing joint between the bath or shower and the tiles.

Due to poor silicone sealing (water droplets do not run off but remain in the cavity) or poor operation of the air extraction fan, the mould first attacks the silicone and the grout (the gaps between the tiles), and can be removed from the grout, but if the mould is persistent it can leave pigmented stains due to the grout’s interaction with the fungus.

In silicone, the darkness of the mould cannot be removed, it can be neutralised – but the aesthetic appearance will not be the same, which is why we always recommend to our customers that they replace the silicone with new.

The craftsman carefully cuts out and scrapes off the old silicone and applies the new anti-mould silicone, which can be white or colourless, but also in a variety of colours to match the interior.

The silicone is professionally applied, with a bevelled finish and without pits. After the work, no water shall be allowed for 24 hours until the silicone has fully set.
